About Robert West
I am a lighting artist from Syracuse New York. In Syracuse I had the great privilege of working at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo for five years. I learned basic animal care for a wide range of animals, as well as animal training techniques, and interacting and educating the public. I worked mainly in the Domestic Animal Barn, which included horses, llamas, cows, and dogs. But I had the opportunity to learn how to care for many animals in areas all around the zoo. After graduating from Westhill High School I studied new media at Tompkins Cortland Community College for one year, where I advanced my knowledge in design and composition, as well as learning new and emerging techniques and programs for creating interactive media.
I then moved to Florida to attend Full Sail University, studied and earned my Bachelors Degree in Computer Animation. Where I met extermely talented people who continue to push my abilites and inspire me everyday. Many of whom I stay in contact with and consider good friends. The teaching staff at Full Sail was a privllege to work, they really pushed me to advance my thinking of art and technology and how to couple the two. After graduating I stay at Full Sail where I had the chance to intern with one of my teachers.
During the intership I delved further into lighting and rendering, refining my basics and learning more advanced techniques, along with helping out in class and testing different methods for rendering.
Currently I am back in Syracuse where I work remotely as a lead lighting artist for a company in Orlando, Campus Crusade for Christ. I am working with a very talented group, and am enjoying my time on the project. I still try and find time to work on other projects. Whether that be an Xbox Live arcade game, my own renders, or short films. In my free time I enjoy being outside taking pictures or shooting videos.
Photography has long been a passion of mine, I started taking classes in High School. Taking my still and video camera out on the weekends is a great way for me to stay creative, while not being behind a computer all day. Aside from that I enjoy playing tennis, going to movies and concerts, and playing with my new puppy Finn.
I am grateful to have found a carrer I enojy so much. Working in the entertainment industry has been a awesome experince so far. I look forward to many years to come, and to see where the road leads.
